Another solid episode of Flying Witch following last week's. Seemingly following the same timeline as ours, the anime starts off with our main three heading off to the Cherry Blossom Festival. Living in a part of the midwest with not-so-much scenery, I can tell you I have VERY jealous. The big news with this episode is we finally meet the dog-like person from the opening. Aptly named Inukai (because Inu in Japanese means dog) was a pleasant surprise to meet. Through the opening, I thought she would be MUCH more timid, and as much as I do like timid characters, I'm glad her character is not just that. Anyways, before I talk about her, I'll give my thoughts of the first part of this episode. Though much less uneventful and not-so-full of magic, the Cherry Blossom Festival was still entertaining none-the-less. Chinatsu is still cementing herself as my favorite character, I could only hope that she has some magic attunement. Her insatiable appetite and excitement for foods instead of the actual focus of the festival was pretty funny and extremely cute! Not only did we get some cute Chinatsu action in this episode, but Kei showed a bit more character too! After Makoto suggests they go into a haunted maze, Kei deliberately ignores her and decides to go to the lottery in which he was previously down-talking. Seems like Kei is a regular old scaredy cat just like me, the faces they use (the bottom right of the header image) just crack me up, they all looked like dolls and you can tell Makoto and Chinatsu we're extremely excited to force Kei into the maze.

At the end of the festival, the trio runs into a fortune teller who is instantly introduced as a witch when she is show talking to her pet hamster Al. Surprisingly Chintatsu seems to be used to creepy looking people, and she approaches her right away. Unlike the other creepy people, this girl ends up getting creepier as she learns more information about Makoto after she asks to get a fortune read. The fortune teller is finally revealed to be Inukai, a witch who used to be close friends to Makoto's sister Akane, who supposedly caused the witch's dog-like appearance. Chinatsu saves the awkward situation by coming out quick and calling her cute, surprising Inukai.
Inukai quickly befriends the trio and Makoto in focused on helping her to reform back to her normal human self. This is where it gets interesting, apparently, Makoto has a decent selection of magical texts and has a HUGE potion set.
Where the heck was this stuff beforehand?! MAKOTO! I'M ASHAMED! DO SOME DANG MAGIC!
Oh wait, she's going to magic, I'll calm down now. Makoto follows by taking out her potion set and very confidently creates a potion that turns into CANDY. I can tell you, I was pretty confident that this candy would help Inukai. Hilariously, the candy does the the exact opposite and turns Inukai into a full-blown dog temporarily. Poor Makoto, maybe I should stop giving her so much hassle about her not doing magic, but then again, she needs the practice! Akane unexpectedly shows up and clarifies that apparently, Inukai in her drunken stupor ate some magic chocolates Akane had because she just HAD to. Turns out the effect will wear off eventually, good for her, but at least she is able to look like her normal self at night. This episode was full of magic and whimsy, I look forward to the episodes forward with new events with all the character's we've met.
