Doom co-designer John Romero is developing a new game focused on the narrative rather than the multiplayer and e-sports crowd. I could start praising the idea of leaving the trend of making an FPS focused on e-sports and online play, but not only that, John Romero has come out and made an honorable decision to put the Kickstarter campaign on hold because of the lack of a proper trailer. Teaser art is nice, but most people want to see gameplay before they back a game that they want to play. Funding is going to be put on hold until the development team has a video demo that they can show the fans.

The team followed this news saying "The team is at work on a demo which demonstrates the kind of gameplay, look and innovative, cool features that make Blackroom truly unique--the things we've waited years to put into an FPS and which make us incredibly excited about this game."

Even without a demo, at the time of cancellation today, the campaign for Blackroom has achieved $131,052 in funding from it's 2,287 backers, which was a large chunk towards their $700,000 goal. The campaign was officially cancelled and will be restarted when a demo is ready, and as such the supporters won't be charged for the initial campaign, and they will be specially rewarded for pledging the first time around.

Blackroom is set to release on PC and Mac come Winter 2018 with no clear details if this pause will effect that final release date. Learn more about the Blackroom over on the crowdfunding page and see if you'd like to help support it when the campaign is restarted.
