The third episode of Flying Witch came in like it heard my previous review and brought me so much joy. Before I start I have to say that the episode was over before I knew it, and that my friends, is something that makes you know you love a show. The comedy was really upped in this episode, enough to keep me chuckling throughout the whole thing. To start off, in this episode we met the uncle, and though he looks generic, he did not disappoint. His thick accent stumping Makoto was hilarious. Being from the Midwest, we have some examples of people like him and I really could relate. Not only did we meet the uncle in this episode, but we also got to meet Makoto's sister Akane! She was truly a breath of fresh air, exciting and she brought us what we wanted from this anime, MAGIC! This episode seemed to come in two parts rather than three like the last, but it gave time to really flesh out each story and I enjoyed it much more than the previous format.

The first part of this episode focuses on Makoto wanting to grow vegetables as part of her witch training. Living in farmland, of course the family has some land in the backyard, unfortunately it's extremely littered with grass and weeds. Kei, Makoto, and Chinatsu work together to clear an area for Makoto to use as her farmland. The comedy in these scenes was perfect, I never knew I would laugh so much at a girl chasing a bird, but it was extremely entertaining. All while Kei and Chinatsu play off of how weird it is for her and Chito to be chasing a pheasant, their dad comes out and humorously starts chasing it as well. I'm glad they gave the father/uncle some character, the mother seemed pretty generic when we met her last episode. This was a great example of slice-of-life, it was beautiful the whole way through, and had great comedic scenes that weren't too over the top, enough to make me laugh, but I didn't need to pause the episode to catch my breath.

The second part of this episode is where we met Akane, though we seen her earlier in the opening sequence showing that she came from Africa. Once again, poor Chinatsu is put into the "stranger danger" situation, her family really should have informed her about all these weirdos beforehand.

Akane came to save the day, and tell Makoto off for not showing us magic! Apparently it's not too smart to use as little magic as Makoto is using because she'll weaken her powers that way. I'm extremely glad to hear this, because hopefully that means we'll see more magic in the future. The anime is called Flying Witch and we have only seen her fly once! During this scene, we finally get to see a spell being used. Akane, Chinatsu and Makoto get together behind a shrine, and perform a spell that summons crows. I really liked that Akane explained that apparently this spell was previously used in wars for reconnaissance. Can we get a cool extreme spin-off of a witch shonen anime? Anyways, I'm surprised Akane didn't show Makoto a more useful spell if she has to use spells more frequently. This episode really pulled out the stops, giving us more humor and showing us some magic. I will definitely continue watching Flying Witch, I hope we have more and more episodes like this one!
