So we’ve got some great news for all of those sadists out there. Atari will be releasing a new Rollercoaster Tycoon soon. This game has had a long run so far. The first game was released on March 31st, 1999. After that the game received two expansions packs and multiple sequels with their own expansions. Rollercoaster Tycoon took an interesting turn in 2014 when the 4th installment was released for mobile devices only on April 14th. At the same time game producer legend Atari revealed at Gamescom 2014 that there will be a PC version titled “Rollercoaster Tycoon World”. Originally it was set for a 2015 release however that never came true, instead the release date was pushed back to early 2016. Now it has become a reality.
I’m interested to see how the game is going to come out. So far the game is not being fully released, instead releasing into Steam’s Early Access program. Now Atari is aware not everyone is a fan of this method, and to soften the blow Atari has gone on further to state that there will be bugs and other issues in this early release. Atari’s strategy is interesting but not novel. Using players to find the majority of the issues for you while letting them “experience” the game is nothing new especially since the advent of Early Access and betas.

Still even with this early release and the knowledge of issues when buying the game I’m curious to see where Atari will go with this. When the initial video was released people were unhappy with the graphics. However since the game is rather new and is still being developed there should be some leeway given to the graphics since we’re not sure what stage the game was at during the filming of the video. Hopefully this will be a fun game just as the previous games. You will be able to purchase early access into Rollercoaster Tycoon March 31st on Steam for $49.99!
