A Sword Art Online virtual reality MMO was everything we wanted after watching the Anime, and after IBM Japan revealed that they were creating one, it felt like it was happening. Very good news comming out from Sword Are Online: The Beginning, we've had some more info an photos comming from an event they had this weekend. Not surprising, after asking for just 200 people for the alpha test, they got 100,000 applications, meaning that everyone who applied had only a 1 in 500 chance to play. It was like the lottery for us people who just want to jump into another world for a little bit and have fun exploring, without ever having to leave our rooms. (Gamers, not to be confused with shut-ins). IBM showed off some details at the event on sunday including screenshots of the town, and some crude drawings of how our actions will effect the game. Turns out, excitingly we will be using our bodies, not controllers to control the game. SAO: The Beginning will be using two systems created by IBM, Cognitive System, and Softlayer Support to make the virtual world feel real and responsive.

It may be a few years away from getting to upload our minds into the world using Sword Art Online's nervegear, but I'm sure not complaining about more development in the field of Virtual Reality.
